Rocks make up the matter which constitutes the Earths crust. Rocks consist
of masses or aggregates of one or more minerals and other non crystalline
material.
Rocks are formed in a trilogy of processes.
By crystallization from a molten mass of liquid rock magma (lava at the
earths surface), forming igneous deposits.
From accumulations of minerals, rocks and fossil fragments at the Earths
surface, creating sedimentary deposits and, in the recrystallization of
rocks in the solid state, caused through Earth crustal movements and high
temperatures (though not melting), known as metamorphic deposits. Formations
of rocks can be mapped to give us clear indications about the Earths surface
structure, history and composition.
