Illminster Ammonite Cut & Polished Pair
In a Shiney Black Box With a Lable Describing Species, Origin and Age
Age:
180 to 190 Million Years Old
A British find of a collection of ammonites from a quarry outside Illminster, Somerset. This area was part of a shallow sea, where cephalopods were the predominant carniverous species. The deposit produced mostly ammonites indicating that they reigned supreme in the area.
They had stinging tentacles to catch and weaken prey, a beak like mouth for crushing their victims, large eyes for seeing at depth in the seas and oceans and could squirt and expell water to adjust their speed and depth. Ammonites died out 65 million years ago, around the same time as the dinosaurs.
